Energy Producing States Coalition

“We applaud the Administration and CEQ for advancing this proposal which would be the first comprehensive update to NEPA in over 40 years. Much has changed in our nation’s environmental and regulatory landscape since the 1970s. What was once a useful tool to ensure that agencies were collaborating with one another to review truly important projects or permits has now become a tool of dysfunction, bureaucracy run amok and a magnet for frivolous litigation. Approving Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) for our nation’s federal highways now takes an average of seven years and numerous other important infrastructure projects have been delayed by a decade or more. For the good of our country, these updates rightfully insert some much needed predictability, clarity, and plain common sense to help make the federal government work more effectively for the people they serve.”
